Call for Submissions of New Plays!
Variations on Justice

Run of the Mill Theater is seeking new plays based on the theme of justice for our third annual Variations Project. Eight to ten short plays will be selected for a production in May 2007 at Theatre Project in Baltimore.

Phase 1: The Variations Project is a process-oriented collaboration. After audiences from the last Variations production chose this year's theme of justice, a gathering was held to generate source material for playwrights. This year's event was held on January 13, 2007 at Load of Fun, located in Baltimore's Station North Arts District. All interested playwrights (whether you attended the gathering or not) have access to the source material, which can be downloaded by clicking on the Artifacts link.

Phase 2: Write, write, write! The second phase of the project is the submission of new plays. The deadline for consideration in this year's Variations on Justice is 11:59 pm on March 1, 2007. Plays must be submitted to variationsproject@gmail.com in Word or PDF format.

Phase 3: The third phase of the project is the development and selection process. Approximately 15 scripts will be chosen as finalists. A public reading of these scripts will be held in mid-March, and then approximately 10 final plays will be selected for production. If your play is chosen for production, you will have an opportunity to submit revisions and work on refinements with your director and actors during the rehearsal process.

Play requirements: Plays must be inspired by the current source material provided (that means no digging out old plays from the bottom drawer to submit!) and must explore the theme of justice. Beyond that, there are no demands, requirements, or requests regarding style. We ask that you write the plays that you want to write, rather than writing plays that you think we might like. Playwrights may submit up to two original scripts-one short play and one full-length play.
